The Löwenhaus (also: Hof Seldenüst ) is a listed building in the East Frisian city ​​of Norden , in Lower Saxony . It is listed as an individual monument in the register of cultural monuments in the city of Norden . It has the address Alleestraße 20. Until 1919 the farm was a single farm within the former community of sand farmers .

Building description

The building is a gulf house of the East Frisian type. The living area was built in 1789 and the business area around 1860. The curved gable of the building is decorated with four figure attachments, which represent water deities . The house got its name from the side of the input as arms carriers established lions . Its second name, Seldenüst , means “rarely rest”.

Inside there is a tiled room with Italian tiles, Bible tiles and Delft tiles that was built over several centuries . During the most recent renovation work, ceiling paintings were also discovered in the kitchen area, which the owners had exposed during the renovation, making them visible again. There were several holiday apartments in the building until 2014 .

The building is privately owned and is therefore not open to the public. However, the owner took part in the 2014 Open Monument Day .
