Lüghausen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lüghausen , originally Lughausen , is a district of Hoffnungsthal in the town of Rösrath in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis .

history

The spelling Lughausen can be found on old maps around 1800. The name Lughaus can be a medieval name for a guardhouse or a watchtower, which were built as observation posts on hills or in city fortifications.

The area in which the Lughaus could have stood is still popularly called "Wachelte". From here you have a good view of the Cologne-Bonn Bay and of today's Eulenbroich and Venauen palace complexes in Rösrath. One could assume the following origin for this old place name, which also fits the name Lughaus: Wachelte = keep watch = keep watch.
