The restaurant L'Auberge du Pont de Collonges is located about four kilometers north of Lyon on the banks of the Saône and is close to the eponymous bridge. From the first floor onwards, the two-story building is painted with red, green and yellow wall paint as well as with color-coordinated culinary and animal motifs. On the roof of the building there is a large neon sign with the words "Paul Bocuse". In the direction of the guest car park, some windows, including window sills and shutters, were painted on the outer facade, which visually can hardly be distinguished from the real windows of the restaurant. One of these painted windows is shown open and the supposedly real Maître Paul Bocuse looks down from there to his real customers in the parking lot.

The way to the main entrance of the restaurant leads over a row of three embedded floor slabs, which - analogous to the Walk of Fame in Hollywood  - are inscribed with the names of the state presidents and other nationally and internationally particularly outstanding personalities who visited Paul Bocuse and his gourmet restaurant as guests .

The Auberge has around 100 seats, which are divided into three named salons as follows:

  • Fernand Point : 25 guests
  • Georges Bocuse: 25 guests
  • Marie Bocuse: 50 guests

history

Paul Bocuse's grandparents opened the predecessor of today's restaurant on the Saône under the name Auberge du Pont . Paul Bocuse took over this auberge from his father in the third generation and continued it under the name L'Auberge du Pont de Collonges (some of the restaurant is now publicly referred to as Paul Bocuse ).

In 1958, the restaurant received its first star in the renowned Michelin Hotel and Restaurant Guide ; The second Michelin star followed in 1962. Since 1965, L'Auberge du Pont de Collonges has been awarded three Michelin stars without interruption, the highest rating for restaurants (“One of the best cuisines - worth a trip”).

L'Auberge du Pont de Collonges has lost its third Michelin star after 55 years and will only be listed with two stars on January 27 in the 2020 edition of the Guide Michelin.
