L'Osteria is a system catering chain founded in 1999 by FR L'Osteria GmbH from Nuremberg . The branches are located in Germany, England, France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and, since 2011, also in Austria, and are partly operated independently (2016: 21 + 9 joint ventures ), but also by franchisees (2016: 31).
Business model
As the name Osteria suggests, the company wants to offer an Italian ambience. The company and its franchisees (since 2009) have been going to the centers of larger cities on the one hand, but also to the outskirts since 2009 with so-called freestanding buildings (standardized new buildings) built individually on the green field . There is more space there than in the inner-city restaurants. The range is also standardized and limited to pizza in a uniform (oversized) size of 45 cm, pasta , salads, antipasti , wedding cakes and desserts. There is also a menu della Casa (changing monthly). The kitchen is open to view.
development
The first restaurant was opened in Nuremberg in 1999 by the founders Klaus Rader and Friedemann Findeis, who were also founders of the Vapiano chain in 2002 . In 2011, the brand already achieved net sales of 23.3 million euros with eleven stores in Germany. In 2013, the 23rd German branch opened in Cologne and the 33rd in Hürth in mid-June 2014. In 2013, sales for 22 companies at the time increased from 31.5 (17) to 42.8 million €. In 2014 a further increase in this area of around 65 million was expected at 33 companies.
For 2013, L'Osteria recorded the largest increase in sales among the top 100 catering companies in Germany, with sales increasing by over 35%. In 2015, sales increased by 30.8%. Around 20 branches are planned for Austria by 2018, five of them in Vienna alone, which should achieve a turnover of around 50 million euros. Former Vapiano CEO Mirko Silz was appointed third managing director alongside Klaus Rader and Friedemann Findeis on September 1, 2016. In February 2020, Clive Patrick Scheibe was appointed COO.
Awards
The German specialist publisher awarded the company the Hamburg Foodservice Prize in 2012. In 2013 it was named one of the 50 fastest growing medium-sized companies in Bavaria by the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs. In 2014 the HR Excellence Award followed in the “Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises” category. The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung named L'Osteria “Best System Gastronomy of 2014”. In 2016, the company received the iF Design Award in the “Packaging” category and the “Gute Gestaltung 16” award from the German Designer Club (DDC) for the corporate design created in collaboration with the Peter Schmidt Group .
