Lââm (born September 1, 1971 in Paris ) is a Tunisian - French singer.

Life

Lââm, who was born under the name Lamia (“light” in Arabic), had a difficult childhood in her family, struggling with alcohol, lack of money and family disputes. So at the age of six she was taken to a children's home.

Nine years later, a teacher recognized her talent and registered her with the "ateliers de la chanson", a Paris singing school. For ten years, Lamia did everything to be able to work as a singer. She sent demo tapes to record companies and sang in the metro until one evening after a hip-hop event she met the head of the Hebenmusic label. He signed the singer and so she released the single J'ai le feeling in 1998 , which, however, had no success at all. So Lââm decided to become a background singer and toured with Mariah Carey, among others .

In 1999 Lamia released a second single, Chanter Pour Ceux Qui Sont Loin De Chez Eux , a cover version by Michel Berger. The song became a hit, sold more than 900,000 copies and stayed at number two on the charts for nine weeks in a row. In the same year, her debut album Persévérance was released, which went over 300,000 times over the counter. Several singles followed such as Jamais Loin De Toi or Les Enfants De L'an 2000 .

After a major tour in 2001, the new album Une Vie Ne Suffit Pas was sold 100,000 times in two months and finally reached gold status after the two singles Que L'amour Nous Garde and De Ton Indifférence .

A year later, Lââm appeared in the musical Cindy , which brought her another top 5 hit with the single Mon Vieux , but ended up being less commercially successful.

After her first two albums, which were more influenced by R&B, the pop / rock and variété album Lââm was released in 2004. It contained two singles written by Jean-Jacques Goldman , Tu es d'un chemin and On pardonne , but most radio stations refused to play them because they found them too slow. That's why the album only sold 25,000 times. In August 2005, the new single Petite Soeur was released, which immediately reached number five on the charts and gave the career of Lamia a new boost. The last album was therefore re-released under the name Pour Etre Libre and contained three new songs, including Pour Etre Libre (17th place in the top 50).

After a third tour, Le Sang Chaud was realized and the song of the same name was released as the first single. It's a cover version of Just be good to me by the SOS Band with French lyrics. The second single, Rien Ne Dure , was completely discarded by the radio stations and never even went on sale. In May 2007 Relève-Toi was presented, which can already be downloaded from the Internet platforms.

In December 2008 she released a new single, Ta voix (Your calling) , a duet with American singer Jennifer Paige . In January 2009 Lââm's first best-of album followed, On a tous quelque chose de Lââm .

Lââm regularly participates in the annual Les Enfoirés charity concert , the largest media event in the Francophone world.
