LEN Trophy
The LEN Trophy (English LEN Trophy , German sometimes LEN Cup) is a European Cup competition for men and women in club water polo , which is organized annually by the European Swimming Federation LEN . In the current mode are similar to the Europa League in football -placed teams in the national championships, and in the second round a contingent of newcomers page from the current national champion Competition participation rights. The first competitions for men started in 1992 , followed by women in 2000 .
German successes
Outstanding results in this competition are few and far between, as the German clubs largely lost touch with the European leaders in the 1990s due to the increasing professionalization of the sport in southern and eastern Europe. In the premiere competition, Duisburger SV 98 reached the semi-finals and lost to Újpest Budapest . The German national player Thomas Schertwitis reached the final twice in 2006 and 2007 with the Russian professional team of Sintez Kazan and won the title here in 2007 in the final series against the Croatian representative VK Šibenik . The German champion Wasserfreunde Spandau 04 reached the semi-finals in 2010 and was eliminated there against eventual winner VA Cattaro from Montenegro.
