history

In 1976 Robert Zeiser founded the company as a liquidation post and opened the first branch in Reinach (Basel-Landschaft). Over the years, the company expanded in German-speaking Switzerland and Ticino . Lipo Möbelposten achieved a turnover of 60 million Swiss francs with 14 branches by 2004. In 2003, Lipo Möbelposten was taken over by Steinhoff International Holdings and converted into Lipo Einrichtungsmärkte AG. Steinhoff International Holdings is a listed global furniture company with headquarters in Amsterdam and its main operational headquarters in Johannesburg. In 2014, Lipo Einrichtungsmärkte AG took over six Fly branches in Basel, Delémont, Monthey, Pazzallo, St. Gallen and Winterthur. In April 2016, Dirk Herzig resigned from his position as CEO of Lipo Einrichtungsmärkte and Roland Seiler took over management. The company also relocated its headquarters from Reinach to Pratteln in December 2016 and opened two new branches in Schaffhausen and Pratteln based on the new concept. In 2019, Adrian Grossholz took over the position of CEO after Roland Seiler stepped down.

The LIPO Park Schaffhausen is a football stadium with an adjoining shopping center and Lipo's namesake and main tenant.
