LOS is a virtual reality experience by Swiss filmmakers Sandro Zollinger & Roman Vital , which premiered on January 24, 2020 at the Sundance Film Festival .

LOS is based on the book of the same name by Klaus Merz and is a symbiosis of literature and virtual reality, which creates a completely new experience of a narrative in which the participants become much more than the eyewitnesses of an audio book.

content

The texts presented by the author himself from his story Los , published in 2005, condense in the virtual space to the story of Peter Thaler, who sets off on a hike in the mountains in search of a stop. There he stumbles unhappily in a blizzard and breaks his ankle. Lying in the soft snow, an argument takes place that points beyond its inevitable end.

LOS tells of impermanence, the everyday and the final, and creates a liberating view of life itself. Although the story anticipates the end - the silent but significant disappearance of the protagonist - right from the start, it creates a tension that increasingly comes to a head towards a precise and at the same time open interpretation.

Reviews

Michael Meyns from the future praises the artistic originality and quality, which in his opinion is rarely found in the field of virtual reality.

Andrina Zumbühl from the Swiss Book Year describes her impressions between enthusiasm and excessive demands and wonders whether this is what the future of reading will look like.

Pierrick Labbe from Le magazine des professionels de la Réalité Virtuelle & Augmentée emphasizes that the audiovisual sensations that LOS triggers complement the literary text and do not compete.

Charlotte Brossard from Les griffonnages sees LOS as being closely related to the conventional reading experience, as it locks the viewer in a bubble of intimacy that otherwise only a book can achieve.
