LaDonna Smith (2010)

LaDonna Smith (born March 2, 1951 ) is an American musician of free improvisation music . She plays the violin, viola and piano.

Smith studied classical music and lives in Birmingham, Alabama , where she also taught. She founded the Trans Duo with guitarist Davey Williams in 1974 , founded a TransMuseq label with Williams in 1976 and was one of the editors of The Improvisor magazine (from 1981), of which she is editor. She released many recordings on her label, toured Europe and as far as Russia, China and Japan with Williams. LaDonna Smith organizes the Birmingham Improv Festival in Birmingham.

LaDonna Smith played with many improvisation musicians such as Peter Brötzmann , Anne LeBaron , Derek Bailey , Eugene Chadbourne , Andrea Centazzo , John Zorn and the Russian guitarist Misha Feigin .

She is also a visual artist (drawings, ceramics).
