The Chilean city of La Calera has 50,554 inhabitants (2017) and is located in the Región de Valparaíso , Province of Quillota . La Calera is located at the junction of the Panamericana Norte with the route Valparaíso - Mendoza ( Argentina ). Therefore, many service providers have recently settled in the area.
economy
There is a cement factory in town . It is the oldest and largest such factory in South America and the main local employer. The climate allows the cultivation of tropical fruits, mainly avocados and cherimoyas . Limestone used to be mined in La Calera for the cement factory, but stocks are now exhausted.
