The Casa del Vino de La Baranda in El Sauzal is a museum and information center of the Cabildo Insular de Tenerife. The facility is used to provide information on viticulture and other agricultural activities on the island of Tenerife .

building

Simón Herrera Leyvada, who comes from Coronil ( Seville ), had the manor built in the second half of the 17th century. He had settled in La Laguna and did business with the colonies in the West Indies . The estate with the wine press was used to process the wine grown in the area. The one-storey complex, which is arranged around a large inner courtyard, corresponds in its layout and construction to the typical style of these buildings, as they were built in the north of the island of Tenerife in the 17th century as a property for agricultural use, but also as a temporary summer residence for the owners. Usually there is a chapel, a wine press, utility rooms and an apartment for the administrator. There are also outbuildings as storage facilities and occasionally stables. There is a wine press in the courtyard . Because of its colourfulness, the ceiling of the Chapel of Saint Simons is of particular art historical importance. The La Baranda property was acquired by the city of El Sauzal in 1989 and ceded to the Cabildo Insular de Tenerife in 1992 .
