The Abri La Chaire-à-Calvin is located in Mouthiers-sur-Boëme , about 20 kilometers south of Angoulême in the Charente department in France .

La Chaire-à-Calvin is an abri in the Gersac valley . On the wall of the rock cave there is an approximately 17,000 year old frieze from Magdalenian . The Abri has been examined since 1924 by Pierre David , who discovered the frieze in 1927. The remains of horses , reindeer , wild cattle and saiga antelopes can be found here .

The sculptures include a headless cow, a pregnant horse, and a mating scene of horses. Some traces of orange-red color were discovered. Finds include bone needles, conical and square spearheads, a shell necklace and some pearls .

The Protestant John Calvin is said to have preached on a rock platform nearby when he lived in Angoulême for about a year.

Nearby is the Abri Les Vachons .
