Surgeon Island (from English surgeon , surgeon , surgeon ' ) is an island off the Pennell coast of East Antarctica Victoria Land . It is the largest of the Lyall Islands and is 6 km east-southeast of Cape Hooker before the entrance to Yule Bay .
The United States Geological Survey mapped them on the basis of their own measurements and aerial photographs of the United States Navy from 1960 to 1963. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named them in 1970 based on the naming of the archipelago and the other islands belonging to it, all of them after doctors named who were active in Antarctica.
