The Lyall Islands are a group of four small islands off the Pennell coast of East Antarctica, Victoria . They are right in front of the entrance to Yule Bay . From west to east, they include Unger Island , Surgeon Island , Novosad Island, and Hughes Island .
It was discovered during the Antarctic expedition (1839-1843) of the British polar explorer James Clark Ross . He named it after David Lyall (1817–1895), assistant surgeon on the research ship HMS Terror .
