La nuit des oliviers
La Nuit des oliviers , in German "The night of the olive trees" is a play by the French writer Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt . It is a dramatization of the first part of his novel The Gospel According to Pilate from the year 2000.
The play is a monologue for a single actor in the role of Jesus of Nazareth. The night before his arrest (on the Mount of Olives) he is full of fear and doubt, looks back on his life and why it came to this point. He questions himself as Christ and Messiah , tells events and stories very emotionally from his point of view and expresses his feelings such as disappointment, love, anger and misunderstandings.
