La Queue de Gargantua

The menhir La Queue de Gargantua (also La Queusse or La Queuse de Gargantua; Queuse also means whetstone) is north of Borest at the roundabout at the intersection of the D 330a from Nanteuil , with the Rue aux Pierres (D134), in the Oise department in France . The menhir has been classified as a monument historique since 1944 .

The sandstone block having a length of almost 4.5 m, is buried in the bottom one-third.

Gargantua is the name of a mythical giant that François Rabelais (1483–1553) made famous in his cycle of novels Gargantua and Pantagruel in the 16th century. There are other menhirs and dolmens with the name Gargantua.
