La Sergenté
The Neolithic passage Tomb La Sergenté west of "Le Parcq de L'Oeillière" in the parish of St. Brélade on the Channel Island of Jersey dates from the early Neolithic (4500-3250 BC) and is one of the oldest megalithic structures on the islands.
description
A paved corridor bordered by orthostats leads to a round chamber with a diameter of 3.3 m. The chamber wall up to a height of 75 cm is made of dry masonry . Originally it was about 1.5 m high and supported a cantilever vault , the remains of which were found during the excavation in 1923. With the exception of a small separate area on the west side, the chamber was paved with flat granite slabs. La Sergenté is the only facility of this type on the Channel Islands. However, similar examples have been found in Brittany and Normandy .
Finds
During the excavation flint fragments, fragments of charcoal and parts of four early Neolithic round-bottomed bowls were found.
