Painted bronze statue La carícia d'un ocell

La carícia d'un ocell ( Catalan for “the caress of a bird”) is a painted bronze statue by Joan Miró . The artist created them in 1967 in his studio in Cala Major , a suburb of Palma de Mallorca . It is now in the Miró Museum in Barcelona . The statue is 3.11 meters high, 1.11 meters wide and 38 centimeters deep.

A woman is depicted in a highly abstract form. The sculpture consists primarily of individual objects that the artist found and that were subsequently cast in bronze and then painted: The woman's head consists of a straw hat that is placed on the head of a donkey to protect it from the sun's rays. The torso is the seat of an outhouse . The legs are an ironing board. The two mini soccer balls on the back of the sculpture (not visible in the picture) are the buttocks. The shell of a turtle symbolizes the vulva . A bird that could also be a lady's hat sits enthroned on the woman's head.
