La festival de Capisterre

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

La festival de Capisterre is an annual festival in the Capisterre region on the Caribbean island of St. Kitts .

history

The Capisterre region was settled by Europeans early on. at the beginning the area belonged to the French colonial empire (St. Christophe; 1625–1713). Today there are four main settlements in the area: Newton Ground village , St. Paul's , Dieppe Bay Town and Parsons Ground village ; the landscape is characterized by miles of sugar cane fields .

The festival was launched in 2001 to promote the community of these four communities, which the locals often refer to as "the back of the land". Each village would be too small to host an entire festival, but the combined power of the four communities created the largest community festival in the St. Kitts and Nevis Federation . The proceeds from the event will be used to improve the living conditions in the towns. The festival takes place in September on the occasion of the independence celebrations.

There are musical performances of calypso and carnival music.
