Laa on the Tulln

Laa an der Tulln , also called Laa an der Große Tulln , is a district of Neulengbach . It is neither on the Große Tulln nor on the Laabenbach , but is about 2 kilometers away. It is located on a northern slope to the Seebach, the name of which, like that of the neighboring district Umsee, comes from a former lake in the dammed Seebach. The Seebach rises on the Eichberg near Kirchstetten and flows into the Laabenbach just before the confluence of the Anzbach . Until 1971, Laa was a cadastral district of the Tausendblum municipality , which was attached to Neulengbach in 1972. Until 1938 the political district Hietzing-Umgebung was the higher-level administrative authority, the judicial district was Neulengbach. A census in May 1923 recorded 6 houses and 70 inhabitants in Laa. Laa is a typical rural settlement and is divided into three parts: The house numbers 1 to 4, now known as Laskegasse, the former (interwar period) children's home Laa 5, and the houses number 7 to 10 near Umsee (today Laaer Weg). The house number 6, which is missing today, was carried by a gatekeeper house (demolished) at a manually operated railway barrier on the Westbahn. This fragmentation of the settlement is also due to the construction of the Westbahn, which made the original access on a local road from the north difficult, so that today practically only the access from the south from the connecting road Neulengbach - St. Pölten (L 129, formerly B 44) is possible.

Etymology of the place name: In 1348 it was mentioned in a document as Lœch. The dialect sound is Lǫ (with a dull o), from Middle High German lôch "Gebüsch, Wald, Gehölz", this dull sound was noted as a.
