Labatt Brewing Company
Labatt Brewing Company Ltd is a Canadian brewery . It was founded in London (Ontario) in 1847 by the Irish immigrant John Kinder Labatt . The brewery was taken over in 1995 by the Belgian group Interbrew (today Anheuser-Busch InBev ).
history
Labatt started the company by buying the London Simcoe Street Brewery. In 1853, Labatt was the sole owner and named the brewery John Labatt's Brewery . With the completion of the Great Western Railway in the 1850s, the company began exporting across the country. At the beginning of the 20th century, the company passed to Labatt's nine children.
In 1915 the ban on public bars began. In 1916 Ontario was also affected. Some provinces banned the production of alcohol, while others allowed production for export to the United States. Labatt's strategy was to focus on export and bring out a drink with less than two percent alcohol that was sold in Ontario . Due to the bans, which lasted until 1926, many breweries had to close, but this also consolidated the market position of the Labatt Brewing Company.
In 1945 the Labatt Company went public with 900,000 shares. In 1951, Labatt started selling the Pilsen warehouse , known under the Blue label . To promote this brand, the company sponsors the Canadian football team Winnipeg Blue Bombers , which plays in the Canadian Football League (CFL).
The company today
The Labatt Brewing Company employs over 3,000 people in six of its own breweries, the headquarters in Toronto and other locations (e.g. over 20 logistics locations) in Canada. In addition, Labatt is the owner of smaller breweries that produce under their own brands.
