Labioplasty

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As labioplasty ( synonym : labioplasty , labia plasty , labia correction ) are operations of cosmetic intimate surgery to reduce, modify, reconstruct or remove the labia .

The most common form of labioplasty is the reduction of the labia minora. Labioplastic changes to the outer (large) labia are possible, but are performed comparatively less often.

Reasons for labioplasty

The interventions can be medically and functionally justified or pursue aesthetic goals. Labioplasty as a plastic-surgical construction of the labia is used as part of a gender reassignment operation . A reconstruction of existing structures can take place after a medically indicated, gynecological operation.

Forms of labioplasty

Labia reduction

Vulva after complete removal of the inner labia (labia minora)

The most common area of application is the reduction of the labia, whereby the inner labia are reduced in size or even completely removed. Various surgical techniques can be used here. An algorithm that also takes into account the size and anatomical position of the clitoral jacket helps to select the appropriate surgical technique. A reduction in the size of the outer labia is also less common.

In addition to functional impairments, mainly aesthetic motifs are cited as the reason for the intervention . In this case, it is a so-called plastic surgery .

Padding of the outer labia

As a result of age and severe weight loss, the outer labia may sag. The cause of this is a loss of subcutaneous adipose tissue. These become wrinkled and lose their firmness and fullness. This can be countered by padding with autologous fat or by tightening the connective tissue.

An enlargement (volume augmentation) of the outer labia can be brought about by a lipostructure autologous fat transplantation. A varicosis of the labia can be corrected with sclerotherapy .

(Re) construction of the labia

Surgical removal of tumors , removal of hemangiomas and certain metabolic diseases can make the reconstruction of the vulvovaginal region, i.e. a. the labia. Such interventions are also used in the context of gender reassignment operations on trans- and intersex people to convert from male to female appearance.

Excess tissue can sometimes be used to replicate the labia. For example, tissue removed from the foreskin during sex reassignment surgery can be used to build up the inner labia.

Clitoral mantle correction (clitoral mantle reduction)

The clitoral jacket consists of skin that lies over the clitoris in the anterior genital area . With enlarged labia, it is often the case that the clitoral jacket is too big. With a clitoral mantle correction, the enlarged clitoral mantle is tightened to the side and towards the center of the body.
