Laboratorio subterráneo de Canfranc

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Laboratorio subterráneo de Canfranc (LSC, Canfranc Underground Laboratory ) is an underground experimental station for experiments in particle physics.

It was set up in the Pyrenees in the no longer used Somport railway tunnel between Canfranc and Pau on the Spanish-French border.

The three experimental halls are shielded from cosmic radiation by the mountain range, which corresponds to 700, 1,400 and 2,450 m of water.

The experiments in the LSC include IGEX-2β , to search for the neutrino-free double beta decay , a review of the standard model of elementary particle physics, and various experiments to search for WIMPs , the hypothetical components of dark matter : IGEX-DM , ANAIS , ROSEBUD , COSME 2 .

The Laboratorio subterráneo de Canfranc, like the three other European underground laboratories, Laboratoire Souterrain de Modane , Laboratori nazionali del Gran Sasso and Boulby Underground Laboratory, is part of the ILIAS coordination group.
