Lake and dam

The Lac de Saint-Cassien is a reservoir of the river Biancon , a tributary of Siagne , in the Var in the South of France .

The dam was built in the 1960s and the lake was dammed over an area of around 600 hectares. At the dam, the lake reaches a depth of over 50 meters.

Given the clear water and the pleasant water temperatures of up to 30 ° C in summer, the lake is a paradise for vacationers and water sports enthusiasts of all kinds (swimming, sailing, windsurfing, rowing, diving).

The lake is also particularly popular with anglers for its large carp. Since its "discovery" for carp fishing in the mid- 1980s by the Englishmen Paul Regent and Kevin Maddocks and the German Gerd Haberler, the lake has been used every year by many anglers from all over Europe (especially from England, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and Italy) visited, whereby many visitors could catch their "fish of life" here. In order to preserve the special fish population, the catch is only rarely killed, but mostly put back into its element ( catch and release ).
