Lacritin is a protein in mammals that is secreted in humans by the acini of the lacrimal glands and itself increases tear secretion. Lacritin binds to collagen -IV, Fibronectin - and laminin -1 molecules of epithelial cells of the cornea and the triggers NFAT - and mTOR - signaling pathways of these cells. Lacritin can also trigger the sprouting of salivary gland cells in a dose-dependent manner . In blepharitis and two syndromes of dry eye , the Lacritinexpression is reduced.
