Truck loading crane

A loading crane is a loading device that is mounted on a utility vehicle so that it can be loaded and unloaded.

Loading cranes are usually driven hydraulically . Occasionally they can simply be detached from the chassis. They can be swiveled, some have an endless swivel mechanism. They have one to three joints, a lifting arm and no or two articulated arms (jib) and one to eight telescopic extensions per articulated arm.

  • A joint allows something to be lifted easily. This structure can be found on inexpensive small cranes.
  • With two joints, the articulated arm can be used to reach the entire loading area of a vehicle or the floor directly next to the vehicle. It is the most common type of construction.
  • Three joints can be found on the large models, mainly to accommodate the two telescopic runners when folded on the two articulated arms. On the other hand, you can get behind many a roof edge. With a length of up to 36 m or 45 m, loads can also be lifted onto the roof or to the upper floors of a multi-storey building. They come close to the application area of a mobile crane and are superior to it in some cramped situations.

Loading cranes can often be controlled from both sides of the vehicle using levers. Some have an additional, elevated operator station, especially in the case of devices specializing in timber transport or recycling, often with a (rotating) seat. Many new models are now also available with radio remote control. In Austria, proof of specialist knowledge is required from a load capacity of 5 t or a load moment of 10 tm. In addition to a simple crane hooks are often used accessories pallet fork, clamshell (rare grave gripper) for bulk or Rundholzgreifer. A trailer that specializes in transporting timber, especially those with a loading crane, is called a logging trailer . Other models have a built-in cable winch or to be mounted on the load hook and thus come close to the function of a mobile crane.

In addition to road vehicles, these loading cranes can also be found in the rail sector on railway service vehicles such as small cars or tower cars with transport platforms. Some of them have built-in safety logic so as not to accidentally get into overhead lines or into the counter-train area. Maritime models are installed on ships or platforms. The smallest hand-operated loading cranes with a lifting cylinder are rare today.

The loading crane on the truck was introduced by Büssing in 1958 and also attached to a truck.

Models from Palfinger , HIAB , AutogruPM / PM and Fassi as well as Terex - Atlas determine the world market (as of March 2008).
