Ladislaus of Gielniów
Ladislaus von Gielniów (pol. Ładysław z Gielniowa , also Władysław z Gielniowa , * 1440 in Gielniów , Poland , † May 4, 1505 in Warsaw ) was a Polish St. Bernard monk and poet. He is the patron saint of Poland, Lithuania and Warsaw.
Life
Ladislaus von Gielniów entered the Saint Bernard order in 1462 , which at the time was widespread in Poland. In 1487 he was appointed provincial . He was considered an enthusiastic preacher and committed to the founding of new monasteries and the missionary work of Lithuania. Numerous poems with Marian and Christological themes have come down to us by him. Ladislaus von Gielniów died on May 4th 1505 and was beatified in 1750. He went down in the church history of Eastern Europe as one of the first missionaries and preachers .
