The Lafarge Rocks ( French Roche Lafarge ) are a large and some smaller rock islands off the west coast of the Trinity Peninsula in the north of the Antarctic Peninsula . They are located 3 km northwest of Casy Island and 11 km west of Prime Head .
They were discovered by participants in the Third French Antarctic Expedition (1837-1840) under the direction of the navigator and polar explorer Jules Dumont d'Urville . D'Urville named her after Lieutenant Antoine Auguste Thérèse Pavin de la Farge (1812-1839), officer on board the Zélée , who died of dysentery on November 27, 1839 during this research trip . The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee translated the designation into English on November 21, 1949.
