The Lag digl Oberst ( Lake of the Colonel ), in contrast to the larger Laaxersee also called Lag Pign (small lake), is located southwest of Laax in the Swiss canton of Graubünden at an altitude of 970 m .
lake
The lake lies in a shallow depression. In the south it is surrounded by forest, the northern part is in a swamp and reed area. The lake is only filled with water in spring and early summer, when the snowmelts. In the other seasons the lake is more or less dry; the surface of the lake is then covered with reeds.
Lag digl Oberst is located in a nature reserve and is part of the Platta Pussenta landscape use project, which aims to stop the ongoing encroachment.
Surname
The name comes from the Laax Junker Christoffel Joachim de Montalba († 1844), a colonel in the French service, as most of the lake was in his possession at that time. Later, his share was inherited by the von Toggenburg family from Laax. The lake is still privately owned.
