The Lagavulin Bay is a small bay on the south coast of the Scottish Hebridean island of Islay . It is located about four kilometers east of the Port Ellen ferry terminal .
At the entrance, the bay, which cuts about 200 m into the country, is 300 m wide and then widens to a maximum of 450 m. The small scattered settlement of Lagavulin is located at its head . In the eastern part of the bay today for spirits group is Diageo owned whiskey distillery Lagavulin . On a ledge at the east entrance of the bay are the ruins of Dunyvaig Castle , the former ancestral seat of the MacDonald clan and seat of the Lords of the Isles .
