Lahn special ammunition dump

The Lahn special ammunition dump existed from 1963 to 1992 in the municipality of Lahn in the Lower Saxony district of Emsland in Germany .

The 170 hectare site was north of the village of Lahn. It stored nuclear weapons , in particular W70, W50 and W52 nuclear warheads (up to a maximum of 400 kilotons of TNT equivalent ).

The 552nd US Army Artillery Group , Sögel site , and the 162nd US Army Ordnance Company , as well as the transport battalion (special weapons) 81 of the Bundeswehr were assigned .

The access to the Lahn nuclear weapons depot was the scene of several demonstrations by the peace movement, in particular by Pax Christi , in the 1980s .
