Sonic Child is the third studio album by the German blues rock band Zodiac . It was released on September 19, 2014 via Napalm Records .

Emergence

After the release of the previous album A Hiding Place , the band began to write new songs. At the end of 2013 the band was supposed to play a tour in North America in support of Monster Magnet . Two days before departure, the musicians were denied the necessary visas . Since the band members have already taken vacation from their jobs for the planned tour , the musicians spontaneously decided to rehearse new songs. After all, half of the material for the new album was available when the time ran out. The music was written by all four band members, while singer Nick van Delft and drummer Janosch Rathmer wrote the lyrics.

The recordings lasted three to four weeks. The album was produced by Martin Meinschäfer. First the instrumentals were recorded. Some of the songs were recorded live. Then the vocals were recorded under the direction of Henrik Freischlader . Guest musicians include Jojo Brunn keyboards and Henrik Freischlader ( background vocals ). With the song Not Fragile , Zodiac recorded a cover version of a song by Bachman-Turner Overdrive . For the songs A Penny and a Dead Horse and Sonic Child were music videos rotated.

Sonic Child is a concept album about the love of music. The album cover shows a little boy listening to music through his headphones . According to the drummer Janosch Rathmer, “as a child, you didn't first look on Facebook to see how a band dresses when you discover new music”. The band wanted to focus on the music. The song Out of the City was released on a split single with the band Audrey Horne . The Norwegian band had also released a song entitled Out of the City on their album Pure Heavy , which was released around the same time .
