Simone Masciarelli (born January 2, 1980 in Pescara ) is a former Italian cyclist .

Simone Masciarelli comes from a cycling family: his father Palmiro Masciarelli was a well-known racing cyclist Gregario of Francesco Moser and his younger brothers Francesco and Andrea are also cyclists. In 1996 he finished third at the Italian youth championship in cyclo-cross racing .

In 2000, Masciarelli received his first professional contract. The great successes did not materialize, however: in 2003 he started at the Vuelta a España and finished 126th overall, the following year he was 91st in the Giro d'Italia . In 2006 he was ranked 14th in Paris – Brussels and sixth in the Giro dell'Emilia . The following year he finished twelfth at the Giro dell'Emilia, started a second time at the Giro d'Italia and finished the tour in 127th place.

From 2005 to 2012 Masciarelli drove together with his two brothers for the Acqua & Sapone team , whose sporting director father Masciarelli was. Frank Vandenbroucke , who attempted suicide in 2007 , also drove for the team . It was Simone Masciarelli who found him and called an ambulance, after which Vandenbroucke lived with his family. Simone Masciarelli was also the last phone call from Vandenbroucke before he died in a hotel in Senegal in October 2009 .

The Acqua & Sapone team was dissolved at the end of 2012, Simone and his brother Andrea moved to the Hungarian cycling team Utensilnord Ora24.eu , which returned its license as a Professional Continental Team at the end of 2013 . In February 2014 both were still without a contract. The two brothers have been contesting Ironman competitions ever since .

In the course of the doping investigation by the Public Prosecutor of Padua , Masciarelli was suspected of having been a customer of the controversial sports medicine specialist Michele Ferrari .

The Masciarelli family runs the Masciarelli Bikes bicycle shop in Pescara.
