Francesco Masciarelli

Francesco Masciarelli (born May 5, 1986 in Pescara ) is a former Italian cyclist who is now active as a triathlete .

Career

In 2005 and 2006, Francesco Masciarelli drove as a stagiaire for the Italian Professional Continental Team Acqua & Sapone , where his father Palmiro is the team manager. From 2007 to 2010 he drove there as a professional with his two older brothers Simone and Andrea . In his first year he was able to win two stages in the Tour of Japan and was able to win the overall standings. In 2008 he achieved his greatest success by winning the Giro del Lazio , a one-day race hors categorie four seconds ahead of Filippo Pozzato . In the Mediterranean Tour in 2010 he won a stage.

On June 7, 2012, it was announced that he was found to have a tumor in the pituitary gland . As a result, he had to stop cycling for the time being.

In the course of the doping investigation by the Public Prosecutor of Padua , he was suspected at the end of 2014 of having been a customer of the controversial sports medicine specialist Michele Ferrari .

In July 2019, he finished second in the Ironman UK (3.86 km swim, 180.2 km bike and 42.195 km run).
