Janosch Rathmer
Janosch Rathmer (born February 24, 1982 in Münster ) is a German drummer . He plays in Long Distance Calling and Zodiac and was previously with Misery Speaks .
Career
Rathmer's first instrument was the piano . It was not until the age of 16 that he began to play drums. Rathmer Nicko McBrain from Iron Maiden and Vinnie Paul from Pantera are among his influences .
In 2001 he joined the melodic death metal band Misery Speaks from Münster , which had been founded two years earlier . Rathmer released four studio albums with Misery Speaks. He can also be heard as a singer on the album Catalog of Carnage . After a short interlude with the Steinfurter thrash metal band Steel Death , Rathmer was one of the founding members of the instrumental rock band Long Distance Calling in 2006 , where the former Misery Speaks guitarist Florian Füntmann is also active. In an interview Rathmer explained that he and Füntmann were looking for a musical balance and were overwhelmed by the great interest in Long Distance Calling. Rathmer released seven studio albums with Long Distance Calling and represents the band's own civil society .
After Misery Speaks dissolved in 2010, Rathmer and the guitarist Stephan Gall decided to continue making music together. The result was the hard rock band Zodiac, whose self-titled EP was named “Demo of the Month” by the German magazines Rock Hard and Visions . The debut album was released in the same year on the band's own label Honest Hound Records . A year later, the second studio album followed on Napalm Records . Until their temporary breakup in 2017, Zodiac released four studio albums before the reunification was announced in November 2018.
He has completed training as an audiovisual media specialist . Rathmer organizes the Golden Silence music festival in Münster together with Jan Hoffmann from Long Distance Calling . The festival, which was held for the first time in 2019, specializes in instrumental music of various genres.
