Satellite Bay is the first studio album by the German post rock band Long Distance Calling . It was released on October 5, 2007 via Viva Hate Records.

Emergence

The seven songs on the album were written between early 2006 and early 2007. The recordings for the album took place within three and a half days in April 2007 in the Oldenburger Tonmeisterei . Guest musician on the song The Very Last Day includes singer Peter Dolving from the Swedish band The Haunted .

The idea of naming the first song on the album Jungfernflug came to bassist Jan Hoffmann in the studio. Since it is the first song on the band's first album, the song was given this name. Fire in the Mountain contains a quote from the parable Before the Law by Franz Kafka . The phrase "This door was intended only for you", in German: "This door was only intended for you" is intended to express that a person should jump over his shadow. The song The Very Last Day contains a speech sample from the film AI - Artificial Intelligence .

For Markus Endres from the online magazine metal.de , long distance calling is tearing down “ walls and taking listeners to other spheres”, for which he awarded eight out of ten points. Thomas Kohlruß from Babyblauen Seiten described Satellite Bay as a “great debut of a really outstanding instrumental band”, although you can still hear the “limited technical studio possibilities”, for which Kohlruß awarded ten out of 15 points.

Republication

On February 10, 2017, the record label InsideOut Music released the debut album as a double album in digipak . In addition to the album, the re-release contains the out of print demo DMNSTRTN from 2006. The demo contains the songs Fire in the Mountain and The Very Last Day in an alternative version. Both the album and the demo were remastered by guitarist David Jordan .
