Bachman-Turner Overdrive , also known as BTO , is a Canadian rock band from Winnipeg , who had a string of hits in the 1970s. Her most successful title is You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet from 1974.
Musically, BTO can be assigned to the early hard rock bands and in Germany also referred to as lumberjack rock. The group played catchy, melodic songs that were driven by incisive guitar riffs .
Band history
BTO emerged from the band "Brave Belt", which was founded in 1970 by Randy Bachman and Chad Allan (of The Guess Who ) together with Robbie Bachman and CF "Fred" Turner . Keith Emerson from The Nice was originally supposed to participate, but he was canceled due to illness. After two moderately successful albums, Chad Allan was replaced by Tim Bachman , the third of the Bachman brothers. The band's name was changed to Bachman-Turner Overdrive based on a truck magazine . Her first album with this name was released in 1973.
The next album, Bachman-Turner Overdrive II , was a huge hit in the United States and Canada. It contained the hit Takin 'Care of Business , which was used in twelve films, among others.
Tim Bachman left the group to work as a producer and was replaced by Blair Thornton . The next album, Not Fragile , was released in 1974, it contained the number one hit You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet . The next albums were Four Wheel Drive and Head On , both from 1975.
After the release of the album Freeways (1977) Randy Bachman left the band, began a solo career and worked with the band Ironhorse . The remainder of BTO released other, not very successful albums and eventually broke up.
In the 1980s, two reunited bands went on tour, one under the name "Bachman-Turner Overdrive" (with Randy Bachman), the other as "BTO" (with Robbie Bachman). They made a guest appearance in the Simpsons episode A Horse for the Family . Randy Bachman and Fred Turner are now playing together again as the duo "Bachman & Turner". B. at the Sweden Rock Festival 2010.
Jim Clench died of lung cancer on November 3, 2010 in Montreal . After 1975 he had been bassist for the band for a while and played with April Wine before and after 1992 . In 2014, BTO was honored with the induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame .
