The Lago Colico is a large lake in the south of Chile .
It is located in Region IX ( Región de la Araucanía ). The lake is 25 km south of the city of Cunco . To the south of the lake is the famous lake Lago Villarrica .
The Lago Colico has an area of around 56 km². There are many wonderful beaches on the lake that are ideal for swimming. It is the source of the Río Colico river .
To the north of the lake is the Conguillío National Park . Araucaria trees that are up to 1000 years old can be found here.
history
From 1604 to 1881 the area was under the control of the Mapuche . The settlement of Cunco began in February 1883. The city was officially founded in 1918 .

The lake is ideal for sailing and fishing . The lake and the rivers are very rich in fish. The area is ideal for kayaking and windsurfing .
