particularities |
The Lago Nero is a freshwater lake in the region Emilia-Romagna in Italy .
location
The lake is located in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines about four kilometers east of Santo Stefano d'Aveto at an altitude of 1540 m slm . To the south-west is the Monte Bue (1,777 m) and to the south-east is the Monte Nero (1,748 m). To the north, the terrain slopes down over extensive, partly swampy forests to the valley of the Torrente Nure .
description
The lake is of natural glacial origin and is surrounded by thick forests. It has a length of 200 meters, a maximum width of 95 m and its depth is given as up to 2.5 meters. The still water has no regular inflows or outflows. It draws its water exclusively from precipitation and temporary inflows from the northern slopes of Monte Bue and Monte Nero during the snowmelt . Due to its altitude, the lake regularly freezes over in winter. Only any excess water seeps into the swampy northern area and then comes to the headwaters of the Torrente Nure via karst events .
There is a picnic area and two small farm buildings on the west bank.
Access
Access to the lake is free all year round. From the north it can be reached on foot from the Torrente Nure valley, but the path is quite steep. From the east there is access from Passo dello Zovallo . There is no paved access.
