The Lago Omodeo ( Sardinian Lagu Omodeu ) is one of the largest reservoirs in Sardinia and Italy . For this, the Tirso was dammed in the Barigadu region . In 1919 the Santa Chiara dam was built in Ula Tirso by 16,000 workers and completed in 1924, this project was designed by the eponymous engineer Angelo Omodeo . The reservoir extends over 20 km in length and is mainly used to alleviate the chronic water shortage of the islands, power generation and irrigation in agriculture.
The dam has flooded some prehistory monuments, the remains of which protrude from the lake at low tide. These include the nuraghi Iscòva, Perdu Mannu e Bentòsu, Pajolu, Biùgias Pilicas e Auru and Songhe e Su Pranu as well as three giant tombs.
