Lagoa do Ilhéu de Vila Franca do Campo ( Portuguese "Lake of the island of Vila Franca do Campo") is an almost circular crater lake on the island of Ilhéu de Vila Franca do Campo , which lies in front of the coastal town of Vila Franca do Campo in the eponymous district of the Portuguese Azores island São Miguel is located.
The small island represents the end of a volcanic vent . One side of the lake is connected to the open sea, so that it also represents a lagoon . It is about 1.7 hectares and is often used for swimming and diving at low tide. Its water quality was rated as good throughout the year from 2006 to 2010.
