The Laguna de Guayatayoc is an outflowless salt lake in the Puna of Argentina . It is located at an altitude of 3,450 meters in a valley without any drainage in the south of the Cochinoca department of the Jujuy province in northwest Argentina.
The lake is connected to the Salinas Grandes del Noroeste and is mainly supplied with water from the Río de las Burras and the Río de Abra Pampa (also called Río Miraflores ). The Tropic of Capricorn runs across the lake.
In March and April, after the end of the rainy season, the lake reaches an area of around 240 km² and a maximum depth of 6 meters.
Several species of flamingo live at the lake: the James flamingo , the Andean flamingo and the Chilean flamingo .
