Life

It is rather unusual for a guru like Lahiri Mahasaya to have been married and a father. As a normal citizen who goes about his daily, worldly duties, he nevertheless practiced yoga successfully, according to his followers. Lahiri Mahasaya lived with his family in Varanasi and taught his students in the courtyard of his home.

Services

At the age of 30 he met his guru Mahavatar Babaji . Babaji initiated him in Kriya Yoga in a cave in the Himalayas and commissioned him to spread this method of "union ... with the infinite" from then on. The very old Kriya Yoga techniques were recognized and passed on by Krishna in pre-Christian times . However, they have been considered lost for many centuries and have now been reintroduced by Lahiri Mahasaya. Lahiri Mahasaya initiated people regardless of their beliefs , religion or caste . His students included not only Hindus , but also Christians , Muslims as well as monists and dualists or people without special faith.
