history

Lahore Transport Company was founded in 1984 to simplify traffic conditions and expand bus traffic. The company was given responsibility for traffic in Lahore in 2009. LTC introduced the first BRT system with 650 buses, which however did not have its own bus lane and was therefore unsuccessful. The construction of a Lahore Metro was abandoned after 20 years of intense discussion in favor of bus transport. The Istanbul metro system served as a model for the planning. The plans were drawn up in 2011 by Pakistani and Turkish experts. The construction of the Lahore Metrobus was divided into various orders and tendered to subcontractors. The Haji Muhammad Aslam company was commissioned with the construction of the foundation and the support work. Another company was commissioned to build the flyover. Construction began in March 2012 and the first bus connections began operating in February 2013. The cost of construction was estimated at Rs. 29.65 million. The construction was carried out as an operator model between the Punjab provincial government and the Turkish government. The opening of the first section of the Lahore Metrobus took place in February 2014 by Shehbaz Sharif in a solemn ceremony, which was also attended by Turkish Vice Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag and Nawaz Sharif . The Mayor of Istanbul , Kadir Topbaş , announced that 100 buses would be given to Pakistan. The Lahore Metrobus fleet currently consists of 66 buses with a speed of 26 km / h. The Lahore Metrobus stops have an e-ticket system. The use of the Lahore Metrobus was free in the first month of commissioning, but became chargeable after chaos and overcrowding of the buses.
