The Lake Barkell is a lake in East Antarctic Kemp Land . It is on Chapman Ridge , 2 km west of Lake Reynolds .
Scientists from the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions examined it between 1978 and 1979. They discovered clawed tails of the species Daphniopsis studeri , which corresponded to the first record of these animals west of the Vestfold Mountains . The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia named the lake in 1983 after the helicopter pilot Victor George Barkell (1925–1999), who had logistically supported the scientists in investigating the water.
