particularities |
The lake beeac located west of the city Beeac , 19 km from Colac away in Victoria in Australia .
The 560 ha large salt lake is an important bird area according to the Ramsar Convention for waterfowl such as the Cladorhynchus leucocephalus and Recurvirostra novaehollandiae , hoary-headed grebe and Whiskered Tern . The lake provides food for migrating birds through small crabs.
In 1868 a salt production facility was set up on the shores of the lake, as was the case at nearby Lake Cundare , which an H. Berry from Melbourne operated a few years before it was abandoned.
The lake fell completely dry in 2007 and was filled again by the rains of 2010.
