Lake Bemidji is a small, glacier-formed lake in the north of the US state of Minnesota with an area of approximately 26 km². The lake is located in the south of Beltrami County , near the town of Bemidji , which is on the southwestern shore. The language of the Ojibwe describes the lake as Bimijigamaa (lake that crosses another body of water). The lake is a well-known destination for recreation and excursions. The Lake Bemidji State Park is located along the north shore.
According to popular legend, Minnesota's 10,000 lakes were formed by the footprints of the giant logger Paul Bunyan , with Lake Bemidji even resembling a footprint.
