The Lake Manyara ( English Lake Manyara ) is a freshwater -See the north of Tanzania , of about 120 kilometers west of Arusha lies.

The name comes from a word in the Maasai language, emanyara , which translates as milkweed .

The lake is about 230 km². Numerous animal species live around Lake Manyara. Frequently found are elephants , hippos , giraffes , baboons and buffalo .

The lake is surrounded by different landscapes, the savannah in the east, dry forest in the southwest, and tropical forest in the northwest.

Near the lake many trees like to grow fig tree or Swietenia .

Lake Manyara is located in the eastern part of Lake Manyara National Park , the lake occupies 220 km² of the area of ​​the national park and is also protected by the administration of the national park. Since 1981, the lake is a UNESCO - Biosphere Reserve reported.

There are guided tours where you can observe over 300 species of birds.
