Lake Thunderbird is a water reservoir in the urban area of Norman , Oklahoma, United States .

The reservoir was artificially created from 1962 to 1965 and supplies the nearby communities of Norman, Del City and Midwest City with drinking water. It is dammed by a 2,200 m long and up to 44 m high dam.

The lake is named after the legend of the Thunderbird , a supernaturally powerful bird. Many residents, however, call the lake Lake Dirtybird and thus allude to the cloudy lake water.
