The Lake Tuggeranong is a lake in the Australian capital Canberra . It was created in 1987 by the damming of Tuggeranong Creek and was created to hold back debris that would otherwise end up in the nearby Murrumbidgee River .
The lake is a popular recreational area for the districts of Bonython and Kambah in the southernmost district of Tuggeranong . It covers an area of 57.1 hectares , the lake level is at an altitude of 578 meters. The lake's water quality is monitored by health and environmental authorities, and health risks include algal blooms caused by cyanobacteria and high levels of fecal bacteria.
The bank is surrounded on all sides by parks, swimming, fishing, windsurfing and rowing are possible in or on the lake. There is a cycle path all around . Important buildings nearby include the Tuggeranong Library, Lake Tuggeranong College, and the Tuggeranong Cultural Center.
